Researchers Find Study of Medical Marijuana Discouraged
After the recent legalization of Medical Marijuana in New Jersey, researchers have spoken up about government control of their work. Scientists attempting to grow and perform controlled experiments with medical marijuana are finding it harder and harder to conduct research, due to the fact that the federal government still places constraints on it. One researcher, a professor of plant sciences, stated that he has been trying to gain permission for nearly nine years and is still trying to this day.
My question is this: With marijuana being the only major drug for which the government controls the only legal supply available for research, what do you think they are trying to hide? Marijuana being far less detrimental to the body than other major drugs, what are some possible reasons as to why they are not allowing research outside of their own?

So does that mean that the government doesn't control the availability of drugs for research purposes? like cocaine??? I find that hard to believe... though the truth of the matter regarding marijuana is that it is FAR less dangerous than the other drugs with which it has long been grouped... hmm... Conspiracy theorizing is fun!
ReplyDeleteThis just goes to show how much more power the government seems to be gaining each and every day. We live in America, "the land of the free", scientists should be able to perform reasonable research on any drug of their choosing. I do not think the government should have the power to stop research. Especially research on something that could potentially help ill patients.
ReplyDeletemaybe the research that the gov comes up with won't have to go through as intensive of an examination through the FDA? it's a stretch, but that's all i have.
ReplyDeletePoo, I must've forgotten to post the link to the actual article, but the article stated that it is the only major drug, I suppose major is subject to interpretation and thus couldn't be entirely factual.
