NRA Will Argue in Second Amendment Case

http://legaltimes.typepad.com/blt/2010/01/nra-will-argue-in-second-amendment-case.html

Despite the 2nd amendment giving citizens the right to bear arms, many states have laws in place limiting gun rights in one way or another. Now the National Rifle Association has been allowed to argue that the 2nd amendment should supersede these state laws before the Supreme Court. To do so they are working with a plaintiff arguing against Chicago’s gun limits specifically. However, the plaintiff’s lawyer Alan Gura, has a history with the NRA and believes they will be of little help. According to him “The only factor separating NRA from the myriad other groups advocating for gun rights as amicus curiae is the payment of filing fees.” But NRA lawyer Paul Clement apparently has a history with the Supreme Court and has used that influence to make sure the group gets a say during the process.

Do you think federal legislation like 2nd amendment can override state laws in this particular field, and what place do groups like the NRA have in this whole process?
