Clinton's Request to Russia

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2010/03/18/lok.chance.russia.clinton.cnn?iref=allsearch

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, asked Russia to hold back on helping Iran build a nuclear power plant. Clinton says that Iran is entitled to build a civil nuclear power plant. However until Iran reassures that a nuclear weapons program is not being created, the development of a nuclear energy program in Iran should be suspended. Clinton says that the message to Iran should be clear, that the Iranians will not create a nuclear weapons program to continue progress in nuclear power.

Is it right for the US to take control in preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear arms program or should that be more on the international level? Explain.

  1. The right for Iran to create a nuclear weapon and harness nuclear energy should be discussed on the international level. It shouldnt be up to the US to decide whether or not another country has the right to possess these powers. Also, the Russian government should be able to make independent decisions and should not have to worry about United States interference in its economy.

  2. Weather or no Iran has Nucular capabiliy is not the world's desicion utamatly it is Iran's. They are just afraid to start a program because the US will stop them if they try to start one. Even though the US is being a bully about nucular wepons it is because they do not think Iran is stable enough to run a nucular power plant. I also belive Iran's Government is not run well enough to have a well keep safe nucular plant of any kind.

  3. Nuclear power needs to be an international concern rather than a national one because a nuclear accident or detonation will have far-reaching effects. The United States really has no right to restrict Iran, mostly because they themselves have nuclear weapons. The nonnuclear states should be in charge of policing the countries with nuclear power and nuclear weapons to insure that Earth does not suffer catastrophe effects of nuclear weapons gone wrong.

  4. Iran obtaining nuclear power mostly involves the United States and Iran it shouldn't be an international concern. Other states and nations have rights to say there fair share of what they think of the matter, but ultimately this is between the United States and Iran and they need to come to an agreement.

  5. It should be a international concern but it is mainly the US speaking out. If Iran wants nuclear power they should get it, but the US has to keep a cautious eye on Iran. Yes, Iran has right but we also have the right not to trust their intention.
