Report: Iran opens two missile plants

Two brand new missile plants were opened in Iran on Saturday. The anti-helicopter Qaem missile and the anti-armor Toofan-5 (Hurricane) missile are now being mass produced to improve Iranian ground and air defenses. The Iranian defense ministry told their semi-official Fars news agency that the missiles had "high penetration and destructive power." The Toofan 5 is capable of destroying tanks and armored vehicles and the Qaem is designed to resist electronic warfare. Iran and Western governments have been in frequent conflict with one another over Iran's nuclear program, although the Iranian government has insisted that the program is for peaceful energy purposes. Iran has proposed a plan to export low-enriched uranium to Western states, in hopes to quel the resistance to their program, but so far no agreements have been finalized.

Do you think the Iranian government is sincere in its intentions for nuclear power?

  1. I cannot believe that they are anywhere near sincere. As far as defense missles that are not nuclear, I can see their easoning. If they intend to attack or defend they need the proper things. Yet, they use this same excse when developing their nuclear program. Nuclear power is one of the most awsome forces known to man, and when you have country like Iran, who wants to harness it, it cannot lead to good things

  2. I understand the basis for your concerns Leaning Tower. However, while we should be cautious in allowing Iran to harness nuclear capabilities, we should not hinder their ability to grow into a successful state. Their promise to export large amounts of unenriched uranium should be taken seriously and would only help Western-Iranian relations. Also, recently Iran has contracted many different industrialized states to build nuclear power plants in Iran, so their insistence on using uranium only for nuclear power is certainly plausible.

  3. I don't believe that Iran is sincere in any of its action, but I do not believe they have to be;but it is America that must keep an eye on Iran and be prepared for anything.
